The Administration of US President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit with a request to stop trying to eliminate the US Agency for International Development (USAID).
Against the backdrop of the US media reports on the plans of the Trump administration, reduce USAID from more than 10 thousand to 300 employees, unions of federal workers appealed to the court.
The American Association of External Service (AFSA) and the Federation of American civil servants (AFGE) filed a lawsuit against the Washington Federal Court, demanding an immediate termination of attempts to suspend the agency’s activities.
In the lawsuit against Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Minister of Finance Scott Immort, as well as USAID, the State Department and the Ministry of Finance, it is stated that the termination of the agency caused a global crisis and led to massive dismissals.
The plaintiffs demand the appointment of the temporary leader of the USAID, the opening of the agency’s offices, restore access to his sites, the abolition of administrative leave of employees and emphasize that only Congress can make a decision on the liquidation of the agency.
US President Donald Trump on January 21, immediately after taking office, signed a decree on the revision of financing foreign programs.
According to the document, all ministries and agencies responsible for international development programs must stop payments to foreign states, as well as conduct a 90-day verification of the compliance of these programs with US foreign policy interests.
January 27, the US State Department announced the suspension of financing all international programs, including USAID.
Earlier, Ilon Musk said that due to his disagreements with the USAID management, some employees were sent on administrative leave, and the official accounts of the agency in social networks were closed.
Later Trump and Musk announced the need to close the USAID agency.
