The new military strategy of American naval forces does not exclude the “limited” application of Russia of nuclear weapons, writes National Interest.
The author of the article Chris Osborne emphasizes that it is a stance that it will be impossible to take any response actions. In his opinion, Russia may decide for such a step, since the United States is simply afraid to respond.
“may have a thought that aimed and destructive nuclear attack from the first strike will help quickly capture the controversial territory, while increasing the level of risk to such an extent that the United States decides not to respond to the avoidance of a global catastrophe,” Osborne writes, adding, What if in Moscow thinks in the same vein, then this approach of Washington is very risky.
The presence of a low-power tactical weapon among Russia and the United States caused a discussion about the possible “reducing of the threshold” of the nuclear war. Proponents of a tough containment policy meanwhile declare that the use of any nuclear weapon will entail a deadly counterattack. Yes, and the entire message of the American strategy consists in “full destruction” in response, the expert emphasized.
According to Osborne, the Pentagon makes a bet on the low-power nuclear warheads of Trident II D5, believing that they will help “strengthen the containment of Russia” and will reduce the likelihood of a full-scale nuclear war. This concept is based on a paradox: “Expand the destructive weapons with a specific purpose never to use it,” he summed up.
