US President Joe Biden and his Turkish colleague Taiet Erdogan during recent negotiations in Europe did not reach agreement on Russian anti-aircraft missile systems S-400 “Triumph” and agreed to continue consultations on this topic, said the Counselor of the American Leader on National Security Jake Sullivan, RIA Novosti reports.
“As for the C-400, the leaders discussed this question. They could not solve it, and they agreed to continue the dialogue on Russian complexes,” said Sullivan during the telephone briefing.
Russia and Turkey have concluded a contract for the C-400 regimental set in 2017, the supply of air defense systems to the Turkish side were performed in the summer-invent of 2019. The deal caused a crisis in Turkey’s relations with the United States – Washington demanded that in return to purchase American Patriot complexes, threatening or even cancel the sale of Turkey of the latest F-35 fighters, as well as impose sanctions in accordance with CAATSA (law “on countering America’s opponents by means of sanctions”).
Ankara is not going to abandon C-400. Moreover, at the end of April, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlyut Chavushoglu said that the Turkish side continues negotiations with Russia about buying a second shelf C-400.
