Scientists from the National Institute of Virology of India for the first time revealed the virus of Nipags near the bats in Maharashtra, reported in the preprint of articles published in the “Journal of Infections and Public Health”, RIA Novosti reports.
Virus, which is usually detected by the volatile foxes and mice, the World Health Organization calls one of the most dangerous in the world. It is transmitted to people who have been in food fruits, which turned out to be a saliva of an infected animal. At the same time, there are currently no medication nor virus vaccine and mortality rate reaches from 40 to 75%.
Earlier in India, four outbreaks of this disease revealed. For the first time, the Nipakh virus was registered in West Bengal in 2001 and 2007. Another twice – in 2018 and 2019 in Kerala.
Scientists noted that since March 2020, samples of 80 species of Rousettus Leschenaultii and Pipistrellus Pipistrellus and Pipistrellus, living in the Mahabaaleshwar cave, were investigated and found RNA and antibodies to the Nipa virus.
“Repeating outbreaks, a high mortality rate, the transfer from a person to a person and the lack of effective vaccines / antiviral drugs cause serious concern in India, since the places of accumulation of bats are very common in areas where many people live,” the articles of scientists .
Researchers stated that this discovery requires further study, since no conclusions cannot be made from the current review, given a small selection of volatile mice.
