Indonesia: Merapy Volcano

On the volcano Merapy in the west of the Indonesian island of Sumatra, the fourth eruption has occurred from yesterday.

According to Antara News with reference to the Indonesian Center for Volcanology and Sitting Geological Dangers (PVMBG), the volcanic activity of the measured intensified.

Sunday morning, October 27, the volcano erupted four times and threw the ashes, specified in PVMBG.

The first eruption of one of the most active volcanoes in the world occurred the day before at 07.00 local time. Merapy threw the ashes to a height of about a kilometer. The second and third eruptions also occurred the day before.

In the morning, on Monday, October 28, Merapy erupted for the fourth time, throwing the ashes to a height of about 800 meters.

In May, storm rains in Indonesia provoked a gathering of accumulation of stones, ash and land formed as a result of the eruption of Merapy: 67 people were killed.

Indonesia is located in a seismo-vulcanic belt called the Pacific Fire Ring. On the territory of the island state there are 130 active volcanoes. And the Mespi volcano is considered one of the most active volcanoes in the world.
