Anti-Russian moods continue to grow in Armenia and more and more often appeals to deploy international security forces on the border with Azerbaijan. This, in particular, was announced by civil society activists and human rights defenders who conducted a protest from the Armenian government building.
Activists and human rights defenders came out today in Yerevan to protest a government building with the requirement to introduce mechanisms to ensure the safety of residents of Armenia and the protection of the country’s interests.
In the hands of the protesters, there were posters with inscriptions “Women against the organizers of this slaughter”, “no recruits on the border”, “for what to lead the CSTO?”, “The government is obliged to provide human right to life”, “stop the slaughter!”, “Decide our security issues, or leave!” And others.
Head of the Helsinki Association of Armenia, Nina Karapetyanz human rights defender came to a protest action with an empty poster. “I would suggest authorities so that they themselves filled this poster. I wonder what they write about themselves? Are they assessed this situation? Is it normal?” – she said.
Human rights activist noted that the authorities are obliged to discuss new negotiations, new mechanisms, because the current countries do not solve the problems of the country.
“those systems in which we are involved, those mechanisms that are implemented, or those Russian peacekeepers, which are present here, do not solve our problems. We do not get the reaction of the CSTO, nor the reaction of Russia,” said Karapetyanz.
According to her, Armenia should take advantage of international rights, including in the form of attracting international peacekeepers, introducing joint monitoring mechanisms. “The fact that Russian peacekeepers do not restrain, already a fact. The presence of an international contingent will force the world community not to be silent, otherwise, it will be very hit by their reputation,” said Karapetyanz.
On accusations of the Armenian side about the inaction of Russian peacekeepers today, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharov also replied.
“If someone wants to throw a shadow on Russian peacekeepers, they will not succeed, as they work clearly and coordinated, in the interests of the settlement of the crisis. For greater clarity, this question is better to ask representatives of the peacekeeping mission that are in constant contact With both parties and, if necessary, investigate incidents, “she said.
