Iran and Bahrain agreed to begin bilateral negotiations on the restoration of diplomatic relations that were torn in 2016.
The relevant agreement was reached following the meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Bahrain Abdel Latifa Ben Rashed Az-Zayan and the acting head of the Foreign Ministry of Iran Ali Bageri Kanya, which took place in Tehran on June 23.
The head of Bahrain’s diplomacy arrived in Tehran to participate in the meeting of foreign ministers of the Asian cooperation dialogue.
On January of January 2016, 47 people were executed in Saudi Arabia on charges of terrorism, including the Shiite religious figure Nimr al-Remyr. After that, protesters in Iran set fire to the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Tehran and the Consulate General of the Kingdom in Mashhead. Following these events, diplomatic relations between the two countries were torn.
Most Arab countries followed the example of Er-Riyad. In January 2016, Bahrain also announced the rupture of diplomatic agents with Iran.
