Iran, Azerbaijan and Georgia have reached an agreement on the organization of the transit route connecting the Persian Bay with the Black Sea. This was stated by the Director-General of the Department of International Transit and Transit RMTO Javad Hedayati in an interview with ISNA.
“After the two meetings with Azerbaijan and Georgia, we offered them the initiative to create a new transit corridor for the regional convergence. Of course, this plan was offered 8 years ago, but due to the involvement of many countries in this agreement, it is not yet Implemented, and the parties have not reached the consensus, “he noted.
Headati noted that the creation of this new route can connect the Persian Bay with the Black Sea.
“Georgia and Iran are the main parties to the agreement, since Iran is associated with free waters through the Persian Bay, and Georgia has two important trading ports to the east of the Black Sea. On the other hand, Georgia and Azerbaijan have made great efforts to improve and develop. its transport infrastructure, so we tried to expand cooperation with both these countries, “he added.
According to the agreement, pilot cargoes will be sent from Iran to deliver Iranian goods to Azerbaijan across the border of Astara, as well as in Bulgaria or other countries of Eastern Europe through the ports of Georgia on the Black Sea. The pilot phase of the project is planned to be held until the end of the year in the Iranian calendar (March 20, 2022) so that it is possible to identify obstacles and problems.
It is noted that at the final trilateral meeting between three countries will be created a mechanism for reducing costs and delivery time.
