Last time the United States imported oil from Iran in November 1991. Then the volume of supplies amounted to 64 thousand barrels per day. At the same time, in October 2020, the United States imported petroleum products from Iran in the amount of 36 thousand barrels per day. These deliveries were made for the first time at least since December 1991.
Energy Information Management The US Minenergo provides data from 1973. According to them, the United States regularly imported oil and petroleum products from 1973 to 1979. Then the supplies have become less regular.
In January 1988, Iran put in the US only 1 thousand barrels per day of oil and petroleum products, after that imports stopped until July 1991. For another five months, Iran supplied oil and petroleum products to the United States, and then the deliveries stopped up to October 2020. At the same time, in EIA statistics there are no data from September 2002 to September 2020 inclusive about the supply of oil and petroleum products from Iran.
