Iran: Resumption Of Embassy In Damascus Depends On “political Conditions And Security”

The resumption of the work of the Iranian Embassy in Damascus depends on the “creation of the necessary conditions in terms of security and political aspects.” This was stated by the official representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry Esmail Bagai at a weekly briefing, reports Irna.

“We will decide on the future status of the embassy, taking into account the development of the situation in Syria and the possible decisions of the new Syrian administration,” Bagai said, answering the corresponding question.

According to the Iranian diplomat, the resumption of the embassy requires some preliminary preparation.

“First of all, this is ensuring the security of the embassy and its employees. We will take this step when the necessary conditions will be fulfilled in terms of security and political aspects,” he said.

On the eve of Iran’s ambassador to Damascus, Hossein Akbari reported plans to resume the work of the diplomatic mission in the near future.

According to him, the embassy employees in Damascus were sent to Beirut to avoid any problems. “Our embassy in Damascus will soon resume its work,” the ambassador promised.

It was previously reported that after the fall of the regime of Bashar al -Assad in Syria, the Iranian Embassy in Damascus stopped their work, and its employees left the country.
