Iran: Second Round Of Voting In Presidential Election Began

In Iran, the second round of voting in the extraordinary elections of the President of the country was launched.

The start of voting at a press conference in Tehran was announced by the Minister of Internal Affairs Ahmad Wahidi.

Former Minister of Health, Reformist Masud Capeshkin, and former Secretary General of the Supreme Council of National Security of the Republic, conservative Said Jalili, fights for the presidential chair in the second round.

The first in the vote was the Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, about 62 million voters have the right to vote in the presidential election of the 14th convocation. More than 59 thousand polling stations will operate throughout the country. For citizens who are outside the country, plots in 95 countries will be opened.

Power stations opened at 08:00 local time and will close at 18:00.

It is expected that the first data on the results of the elections will be published at midnight, and the final results will be announced tomorrow.

According to a public opinion poll in Iran, the candidate of Masud Cyzeshkian leads in the second round of the presidential election with 49.5 % of the vote, 43.9 % of the voters preferred the candidate-conservative Said Jali.

In the first round of voting, presidential candidates were not able to gain the necessary 50 percent of the vote. Thus, the only candidate from the reformists of Cyezeshkin and Conservative Jalili, who gained the majority of the votes, went to the second round of the presidential election.

The turnout in the first round of voting was 40 percent, which is the lowest indicator in the history of the country.

After processing the ballots, Masud Cyzeshkin entered the leaders with a result of 42.5 percent, Said Jalili scored the first voting tour in second place with a result of 38.6 percent.
