Iran: vote began in extraordinary presidential elections

In Iran, a vote began in the extraordinary elections of the president.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, about 62 million voters have the right to vote in the presidential election of the 14th convocation. More than 59 thousand polling stations will operate throughout the country. For citizens who are outside the country, plots in 95 countries will be opened.

Power stations opened at 08:00 local time and will close at 18:00.

Four candidates claim to be the post of head of state: reformer Masud Cyzeshkin, speaker of the parliament Mohammad Bager Galibaf, former Secretary General of the Supreme Council for National Security Said Jalili and the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Mostafa Purmohammadi.

Candidates must receive 50+1 percent of the vote to be elected in the first round.

If not a single candidate gains more than 50+1 percent in the first round, 2 candidates who have received the largest number of votes will be held on the second round.

It is expected that the first data on the results of the elections will be published at midnight, and the final results will be announced tomorrow.

In Iran, the term of powers of the president is 4 years and can be elected a maximum of 2 times in a row.
