The official representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ismail Bekai said that Tehran has no direct ties with the current Syria government.
During the weekly press conference, Bekai emphasized that Iran had previously intervened in Syria in order to combat terrorism. “We maintained contact with some groups, but we have no direct ties with the current Government of Syria,” he said.
Bekai also said that Iran exchanged views with Turkey on the Syrian issue. “Each actor and side involved in the events in Syria have their own interpretation of what is happening. But this does not mean that all these versions should be accepted by us,” he said.
The representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry said that after the last events in Syria there are no Iranian citizens in the country. “Due to uncertainty in Syria, we do not recommend our citizens to visit the country. Our diplomats and military advisers left Syria. I do not think that Iranian citizens are currently in Syria,” Bekai added.
