Iraq Foreign Minister: Security Agreement With Turkey Also Means Protecting Sovereignty Of Iraq

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Iraq Fuad Hussein said that the memorandum of understanding between Turkey and Iraq on military cooperation and security, as well as the fight against terrorism is the first memorandum of the understanding signed between the two countries.

Minister Hussein spoke at a joint press conference organized at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after the 4th meeting of the Turkish-Iraqi high-level security mechanism, together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan.

Commenting on the memorandum of mutual understanding between Turkey and Iraq on military cooperation and cooperation in the field of security and the fight against terrorism, Hussein said: “The Memorandum was signed by the Minister of Defense of Iraq and the Minister of Defense of Turkey. This is the first memorandum of understanding in the history of the two countries.”

Hussein noted the importance of the Memorandum signed today as the first memorandum of understanding, although previously there were already minutes of meetings devoted to joint cooperation and cooperation in the field of military security between the two countries.

Having stated that they are committed to Iraq’s constitutions, Hussein said: “Any threat to neighboring countries emanating from the territory of Iraq is contrary to our constitution and contradicts its principles.”

Iraqi Minister noted that they act based on this understanding. It also means protecting the sovereignty of Iraq, since threats to neighboring countries are also threats to Iraq.
