The subspecies of the Omicron-Skamma Covid-19 led to an increase in the number of cases of COVID-19 infection in more than 50 countries. This was announced by the General Director of the World Health Organization Tedros Goebreesus, his words are quoted by TASS.
“The growing number of cases [infection] in more than 50 countries indicates the unpredictability of this virus. The subspecies are the drivers of the main surge of cases,” Goebreysus said.
According to him, the subspecies of the Ba.2 Omicron Variant dominates the world, although first of all the growth of incidence is caused by the subspecies of Ba.4 and Ba.5. The head of the WHO noted that the level of hospitalizations and deaths in the world relatively low compared to the previous waves of the pandemic, since the population has formed a relatively high immunity. This was also facilitated by vaccination.
Goebreesus said that one of the worst scenarios of the development of the situation would be the appearance of a cronavirus variant, which would be able to avoid the impact of immunity, easier to spread and have higher mortality. “South African scientists called for further vaccination as a key measure to mitigate the next wave Covid -19,” he said.
