Israeli President Yitzhak Duke flew out on Sunday morning Bahrain, Israeli media write.
This two -day trip will be the first visit of the Israeli president to this Arab state in the Persian Gulf from the moment of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2020.
“This is a new historical step in relations between Israel and the Arab countries that signed the agreements of Abraham, with the hope that new and new countries will join the circle of peace with the state of Israel,” the Duke said before departure.
The President of Israel in Manam will be met by the Foreign Minister of Bahrain Abd al-Latif Rashid Alzuan. Then the president will go to the Royal Palace, where he will meet at dinner with King Hamad Ibn Isa al-Khalifoy.
In the afternoon, the Yitzhak Duke will meet with representatives of the local Jewish community and take part in a meeting of the Bahrain economic development organization. Together with the president, representatives of the Department for Innovation, the Institute of Exports and businessmen arrived in Bahrain.
The visit takes place against the background of anti -Israeli demonstrations, whose participants spoke out against the normalization of relations with Israel and shouted “Death to Israel.” Some held posters calling the duke a “criminal.” One of the demonstrators called the normalization with Israel “betrayal” and urged the duke to stay at home.
