Istanbul Airport Is Planned To Take 4 Aircraft At Once For Take -off/landing

After the successful commissioning of the system of three autonomous runways at Istanbul airport, they plan to take four aircraft for take-off/landing at the same time. This was announced by the director of the General Plan of the Airport “Iga) Yusuf Selamoglu.

Selamoglu noted that preparation for the parallel operation of several runways was laid in the initial plan for the construction of the airport, which was opened in 2018.

He explained that this kind of complex design requires “extensive planning, design and security analysis.” According to the general director, IGA has been working in this direction since 2015.

Yusuf Selamoglu added that all the components of the air zone, runways, steering wheel paths, platforms and aircraft parking spaces were specially designed to support autonomous operations.

Iga Airport Iga from the very beginning was planned, designed and developed with the expectation of the future. Today we are performing operations on three runways, while setting the goal of performing operations on four lanes. The existing airport infrastructure is ready for this, ”he summed up.

At Istanbul airport on April 17, 2025, the simultaneous operation of three runways was launched.

Thus, the first system of simultaneous ups and landings in Europe, in which three runways will be involved, was launched at the Istanbul airport. In the world, a similar system of using runways exists in the present only in the USA.
