Senator of Uranania Papoteu, a member of the Senate of Italy, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Central European Initiative from the party “Italy Forward” (Forza Italia), speaking to the Italian press, demanded from Armenia to provide maps of mined territories of Azerbaijan, reports haqqın.az.
“Armenia should urgently provide maps of liberated territories of Azerbaijan. These land are filled with unexploded mines, the presence of which is the most serious threat to the safety of the population, and also prevents the return of Azerbaijanis, expelled from these areas about 30 years ago,” said Senator.
According to her, these actions of official Yerevan are disrespect for international humanitarian law and, as shown by the latest statistics, lead to death and injuries of civilians and demining specialists. After the end of the Karabakh war in the fall last year, Armenia did nothing to maintain the stability of the region and the safety of people who should live there.
Recalling that Azerbaijan and Italy are strategic partners and that Italy is the largest trading partner of Azerbaijan, Senator Papateu welcomed the adoption of March 2 of this year by the Permanent Commission on Foreign Relations of the Chamber of Deputies of Italy Resolution on the provision of cards of mined territories.
Commenting on the destruction of Armenia cultural heritage in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan during the occupation, the Italian senator noted: “Azerbaijan has always been an example of tolerance, secularism and multiculturalism. But in relation to Armenia it is impossible to say this, since this country systematically destroyed the cultural and religious heritage. During the occupation of Azerbaijani territories. “
“We should not forget that Azerbaijan today must be demanded from Armenia compensation for expenses related to financing the reconstruction of the infrastructure of the region from airports to roads,” Senator Papateu has concluded.
