Italy expects the “role and weight of China” to achieve a fair solution in the Russian-Ukrainian war.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy Antonio Tayani in Rome met with a member of the Permanent Committee of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Li SI.
A written statement published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about the meeting notes that Tayani told his Chinese colleague: “We trust the role and decisive weight of China in achieving a fair and agreed settlement in Ukraine.”
Tayani also raised recent accusations that North Korea sent troops to fight on the side of Russia. He noted that “Beijing’s influence could also be important in holding North Korea from attempts to destabilize regional and global safety.”
The meeting discussed issues of growth and rebalance of bilateral trade, strengthening economic cooperation in the agricultural volume sector and investment.
According to this information, this meeting is part of a new impulse given to relations between Italy and China, with the general purpose of strengthening and updating the “global strategic partnership”, which is a guideline for the development of bilateral relations since 2004.
Italy joined the Chinese initiative “Belt and the Way”, known as the modern Silk Road, in 2019, and in December 2023 came out of it, citing the fact that she did not bring the desired effect.
After leaving the “Belief and the Path”, the Italian government said that he wanted to maintain strong commercial relations with China in another way. In this regard, on July 27-31, the Prime Minister of Italy George Melony visited China and announced the signing of a 3-year action plan for the search for new ways of “restart” and developing cooperation with China.
