The friend of the head of the Italian government, George Melony, was among the three dead when shooting at a cafe in Rome. It is reported that the 57-year-old suspect opened fire on the assembly of residents of an apartment building, but the police will not comment on his motives yet, writes The Guardian.
The mayor of Rome Roberto Gauanteri called the shooting “a serious episode of violence”, in connection with which the city government will hold an emergency meeting. The suspect is in custody. According to reports, he had disagreements with some members of the board of the Council.
Four people – presumably two women and two men – were injured, one is in serious condition. Prime Minister George Melony said that one of the murdered women is her friend Nicoletta Golisano. The Italian prime minister also said that the shooting range from which the suspect allegedly stole a gun was closed and is under investigation.
