Italy requested EU help in connection with influx of illegal immigrants from Africa

The head of the Italian government, George Melony, turned on Saturday to the EU with an appeal to assist in the suppression of the flow of illegal immigrants arriving in the country by sea, Bloomberg reports.

According to her, “the help of the EU mission is necessary, which would prevent boats with illegal immigrants heading for Europe.”

Meloni also invited the head of the European commission Ursulu von der Layen to visit the island of Lampeduza, to which several thousand illegal immigrants have arrived only in recent days. It is expected that von der Layen will visit this island on Sunday.

For their part, the Italian authorities are preparing a number of new measures to counteract illegal migration. They can be announced on Monday.

LAMS authorities last Thursday were forced to declare a state of emergency in connection with arrival at the island only during the day more than 6 thousand migrants.

the center for receiving migrants on Lampeduz, designed for 400 seats, is not able to accept all those who arrived on the island.
