The average global temperature in July 2023 became the highest in the history of observations. This follows from the EU service for monitoring climate changes Copernicus.
The temperature in July was 0.33 degrees warmer than in the same month of 2019, which kept this title so far.
It is noted that in many regions of the Northern Hemisphere, including in the south of Europe, heat waves were observed.
Due to the sea heat waves recorded in the south of Greenland, the Labrador Sea, the Caribbean and Mediterranean, the surface temperature records of the World Ocean and Icebergs were also broken.
Antarctic sea ice area was 15% lower than average. This is the lowest indicator for July for all the time of satellite observations.
The current situation indicates the urgency of large -scale efforts to reduce the global emissions of greenhouse gases, which are the main cause of these records. This was stated by the representative of the climate change Copernicus (C3S) Samantha Burges.
According to her, the average global temperature last month increased 1.5 degrees above the pre -industrial level.
