In June, as a result of heavy rains, mainly in the northern and western regions of the country, 13 floods were registered on the country’s rivers. This was stated by the head of the National Hydrometeorological Service of Umuir Tagieva.
She noted that this is a record indicator over the past 20 years.
“The most dangerous floods were registered on June 10 on the Ganjachachay-Alakhankhalli section, passing through the Dashkensky district, and in the Granchai-Yukhary Agidzhakend section, which was held in the Geranboy District,” she said.
The head of the service noted that for comparison in 2016, only 9 floods were registered, and in the rest of the years 5-6 floods were on average.
“Against the background of climate change, the unevenness of the distribution of precipitation is more pronounced. In some periods of drought, it lasts longer, and the heavy rains covering the local territory sometimes fall within the usual two -month period of several hours. As a result, the repeatability of the floods increases.”
According to Tagieva, similar processes in recent days occur in neighboring Turkey.
“By the end of the month, local precipitation with interruptions is expected in the mountainous and foothills of the country,” he said.
The head of the service said that such processes are monitored by modern radars used in the service, and local executive bodies are informed in 2-3 hours.
“a significant increase in temperature is not expected, since next week the north wind is expected from time to time. The maximum temperature in the capital will not exceed 30-34 degrees.”
