Kashmir – 78 Years Without Peace

78 years have passed since the beginning of the disagreement between India and Pakistan regarding the future Kashmir.

located on the border of five states – India, Pakistan, China, Afghanistan and Tajikistan – the region has a unique geographical and geopolitical position.

Kashmir conflict – since 1947, a conflict between India, Pakistan and (partially) China due to the belonging of Kashmir. The confrontation in Kashmir became a source of three large wars and a large number of bloody clashes that led to tens of thousands of victims.

Solidarity Day with Kashmir is the national holiday of Pakistan. It has been celebrated in the country annually on February 5 since 1989.

The problem of Kashmir still directly affects regional stability. The world community continues to carefully monitor the development of the situation in Kashmir.

UN Security Council on April 21, 1948 adopted a resolution on the settlement of the Kashmir conflict. The document provided for the referendum to decide the fate of Kashmir.

However, India opposed the referendum, did not withdraw its troops from the region, annexing the territories controlled by it, giving them the name Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan granted the status of two autonomous regions under the control of Kashmir – Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan.

Jammu and Kashmir – still the only state in India where the Muslim population prevails.
