Kazakhstan and Russia entered into an agreement on the joint modernization of railway and automobile infrastructure, as well as checkpoints on the state border. The parties will work on improving transport relations and increasing freight traffic, implementing measures and synchronizing transportation, reports Kazinform.
On November 22, 2024, the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan adopted a resolution “On the signing of an agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the Russian Federation on the organization of interaction in the development of railway transport and infrastructure, roads, as well as checkpoints on the state border”. >
The document provides that the parties will work together and coordinate their actions in such areas as: coordination and ensuring the implementation of measures to develop railway infrastructure and sections of roads located in the territory of the sides, as well as road and railway points of passage located located on the territory of the states of the parties; ensuring the proper operational condition and sufficient throughput of objects of transport infrastructure and checkpoints in the territory of the states of the parties; Exchange of experience and information in the field of transport development and transport infrastructure; other areas of cooperation in the field of development of railway transport and infrastructure, roads, as well as road and railway points of passing through the state border between Kazakhstan and Russia, mutually agreed.
In addition, the document says that the parties will take agreed measures to implement the plans of action (“road maps”) developed by the competent authorities approved as part of the agreement. Among them: the development of railway transport and the infrastructure of railway transport; development of sections of roads located on the territory of the states of the parties; development of automobile checkpoints through the Kazakh-Russian state border; The development of railway points of passing through the Kazakh-Russian state border.
In the process of implementing “road maps”, special attention will be paid to synchronization of road and railway transportation to increase the volume of cargo flows and increase transit between countries.
The decision comes into force from the moment of signing.
