Kazakhstan Expects In 2026 To Create An International Trust Fund For Assisting Nuclear Testing Assistance

Kazakhstan expects to create an international trust fund to affected nuclear tests and environmental rehabilitation of infected areas in 2026. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.

The Foreign Ministry noted that the third conference of the State Participants of the Nuclear Weapon Prohibition (Diao) agreement was completed at the UN headquarters, which was chaired by Kazakhstan. It was attended by more than 85 official delegations of the member states and observation states of Diao, as well as over a thousand representatives of parliaments, international organizations, scientific circles and the media from around the world.

First Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan, Akan Rakhmetullin, noted that the elimination of nuclear weapons is not a matter of a distant future, but a practical and urgent task. He recalled the consequences of nuclear explosions in Hiroshima, Nagasaki, tests at the Semipalatinsk training ground and in other regions of the planet, and also called the countries to specific steps in the field of disarmament.

The main result of the conference was a political declaration confirming the determination of the participating states to seek the liquidation of nuclear arsenals, condemning any nuclear threats and emphasizing the catastrophic humanitarian and environmental consequences of the use and tests of nuclear weapons. According to the results of the forum, the delegates agreed to expand the circle of Jao participating states and attract parliaments, scientific institutions and civil society to promote nuclear disarmament.
