Kazakhstan created its own geodetic system of coordinates with a network of permanent reference stations, Kazakhstani State Media reports on Monday
On the recommendation of the Higher Auditing Chamber (VAP), the government of the country has implemented the project “National Spatial Data Infrastructure”, which is aimed at ensuring the self -sufficiency of the republic in the field of geodesy and cartography, follows from the message.
During the previously conducted state audit of the efficiency of land management, geodesy and cartography, it was found that in Kazakhstan there is no its geodetic system of coordinates, which complicates the creation of a single digital cartographic ecosystem.
At the time of verification in the republic, the coordinate, heights, gravimetric and satellite measurements were used, created back in the middle of the last century. Nowadays, she is technically and morally obsolete.
In this regard, VAP recommended the government to take measures to establish its own geodetic coordinate system and create a satellite geodetic network.
“In the decision of this by the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry, the large -scale budgetary investment project” National Spatial Data Infrastructure “has been successfully completed. Today, all planned tasks have been fulfilled in full,” Vap.

According to the agency, the Information System “State Geoportal of the National Infrastructure of Spatial Data” was introduced into industrial operation.
This tool provides state bodies and other interested parties with access to the actual and accurate spatial data necessary for effective management of the territory.
Along with this, from January 1, 2025, the modern state -owned QAZTRF coordinate system has been launched – 23 (Qazaqstan Terrestrial Reference Frame 2023, Kazakhstan Earth Coordinate Basting Foundation of 2023) and a network of permanent reference stations (Cors).
.
The coordinate system created in this way will ensure high quality of geodetic and cartographic data, and will also become the basis for the further development of the country’s spatial data infrastructure.
“Thanks to the introduction of QazTRF -23, the accuracy of geodetic measurements will increase significantly, revealing to the state broad prospects in the field of territorial planning, the construction and creation of modern data management systems,” the department said.
All these innovations marked a new stage in the digitalization of geodesy and cartography in Kazakhstan, concluded in Vap.
The geodetic system of coordinates is the basis for the exact determination of the location of objects on the surface of the Earth. Includes coordinates (breadth, longitude, height) and a network of reference stations that provide high accuracy of measurements.
