“On behalf of the Prime Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture, Trade and Integration, constant monitoring of the situation in the country’s potato market is underway. Due to increased demand by neighboring countries, especially Uzbekistan, and high export prices this year, the export of pongs increased into the current year. 1.5 times, from 411 thousand tons to 605 thousand tons, ” – follows from the message.
It is noted that the excitement demand has influenced the domestic market. So, over the past week, a sharp increase in the price of export -oriented manufacturers has been recorded (from 170 to 270 tenge).
In this regard, in order to stabilize potatoes in the domestic market at a meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission on Trading Activities held on January 18, 2025, a decision was made to restrict the export of potatoes in a third of the country for a period of 6 months.
This measure does not apply to the EAEU countries, but the export in this direction will be under supervision.
At the same time, given the current situation, on January 16 of this year, the issuance of phytosanitary certificates for export was completely suspended.
The measures taken are aimed at ensuring the stability of potatoes, prevent unreasonable price growth and the ban on speculative actions from the market participants.
In addition, the territorial bodies of the Ministry of Trade and Integration, together with the territorial divisions of the antimonopoly authority, are enhanced monitoring of the situation and in case of violation of the current legislation on trade activities, they will take immediate influence on market participants.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, today the available reserves are enough to fully cover the internal needs to the early 2025.
The reserves, as of January 19, are over 850 thousand tons without taking into account reserves in retail chains (600 thousand tons at the Pension Association, 68 thousand tons in stabunds, over 200 thousand tons in celly in LPX and small farms).
