in the framework of the 6th International Marathon, organized by the municipality of Mersin, Kenyz Betwell Kipkemboy took first place at a distance of 42 kilometers, setting a new record of marathons in Turkey.
The event, which took place under the slogan, “Running to Records in the City of Records” gathered 400 athletes from 30 countries, including the United States, Russia, China, the Netherlands, Kenya and Turkey. The races were carried out at distances of 42 kilometers, 10 kilometers and in the format of the mass race.
The second place among men was taken by Boaz Kipkemei (Kenya) – 2 hours 8 minutes 24 seconds, the third – Ilham Tanui Ozbilen (Turkey) – 2 hours 8 minutes 36 seconds.
The first place among women was taken by Juliet Chekvel (Uganda) – 2 hours 29 minutes 18 seconds. Next Deborah Sang (Kenya) – 2 hours 30 minutes 29 seconds and Trufena Chepchirchir (Kenya) – 2 hours 31 minutes 6
The winner of the distance of 10 km among men was Ersin Tekal (29 minutes 54 seconds), among women – Dilek Oztyurk (33 minutes 37 seconds).
The marathon, which received the status of “Elite Label” from the World Athletics Association, has once again confirmed its significance in the international sports arena.
