Pentagon spokeswoman John Kirby on Friday allowed himself a number of emotional statements, speaking of the Russian war in Ukraine, and then was even forced to take a short-term pause to cope with his feelings.
This behavior is atypical for the Kirby – the Rear Admiral of the US Navy, which extremely rarely publicly shows emotions, and also allows itself sharp or evaluative statements during communication with journalists.
During a briefing, Kirby was asked if, according to the Pentagon, the steps of the Russian leader in relation to Ukraine are rational. “It is difficult to look at the fact that he and Russian troops are doing in Ukraine and think that any ethical, moral person can justify this,” the Pentagon representative answered.
Following this, Kirby took a pause of ten seconds to cope with emotions that had surged. After that, the Pentagon representative added that “it is difficult to look at the frames from the battlefield and imagine that any sane, serious and mature leader would do this, RIA Novosti writes.
The representative of the US defense department also rejected the statements of the Russian side that the war in Ukraine was aimed at protecting the Russian -speaking population and eradicating Nazism.
