In Kosovo, a memory ceremony was held, dedicated to the 27th anniversary of the attack, known as the “Prekazsky massacre”, during which one of the founding commanders Kosovo (UAC) during the Kosovo War, Ajasari and his family were killed by the Serbian military.
President Kosovo Vyosa Osmani, Prime Minister Albin Kurti, representatives of state institutions of the country, family members of Yashari and numerous guests took part in the ceremony, which took place in the adema Yashari barracks in the capital of Pristenary.
In his speech, the President of Osmani noted that Aema Yashari and all those who gave their lives for freedom Kosovo are remembered with pride.
Having stated that one of the most heroic battles of the Albanian nation took place in Prekaza, she added: “Prekaz was not just a village. Prekaz was a fortress of freedom. It was and remains today the invincible refuge of our people. The Yashari family is the foundation on which the freedom of Kosovo is being built. This is a living monument to an unprecedented self -sacrifice and heroism.”
The Prime Minister of Courty TVs emphasized that the Kosovo army was created with a small amount of weapons and military equipment, but it was supported by people with a great will: “Since the adem of Yashari and his friends have taken up the creation of the army for Kosovo, we have never had such a strong, armed, equipped and trained army, as today.”
After the end of the event, the leaders inspected the ceremonial guard.
Prekaz massacre
On March 5-7, 1998, Serbian troops of about 5 thousand people blocked the house of Adem Yashari in the village of Prekaz and during attacks using tanks and heavy weapons killed about 60 people, including women, children and the elderly.
Only the 10 -year -old daughter of Hamza Yashari – Besart surpassed in the massacre.
This is a crime known as a “massacre in Prekaza” is considered one of the turning points for the international intervention of NATO to the country.
Amnesty International, published after an attack on Yashari’s family, said: “All evidence prove that the purpose of the attack was not the murder of fighters of the Kosovo liberation army, as well as the destruction of their families.”
