Kremlin: sizes of “sanitary zone” in Ukraine will depend on range of weapons

The size of the “sanitary zone” or “sanitary cordon” in Ukraine will depend on the range of Ukrainian weapons, on which it is necessary to protect Russian territory. This was stated by TASS Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, answering the question of whether the possible boundaries of such a zone were outlined.

“No, it depends on what types of weapons are in Ukraine. The higher the tactical and technical characteristics of weapons in Ukraine, the more this distance should be,” the Kremlin representative.

.

“The main goal is understandable: so that they do not reach Russian citizens with these weapons,” Peskov stated.

Answering the question of whether there is a deadline, after which the creation of such a “sanitary zone” will begin, Peskov noted that in fact this process is “for a year and a half”. “There can be neither the new nor the old [” sanitary zone “], it can only be one. [This is a continuation] of the work that is being carried out,” the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation believes.

Earlier on June 13, at a meeting with military commissars, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that in the event of shelling of its regions, the Russian Federation may consider creating a “sanitary zone” in Ukraine.

The head of the Russian state touched the same topic at the plenary meeting of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on June 16. “If further these attacks on our adjacent territories will continue, we will consider the possibility of creating a” sanitary cordon “in Ukrainian territory. They just have to understand what they are all leading to,” Putin said.
