KS Georgia Began Consideration Of Claims On Law On Foreign Agents

The Constitutional Court of Georgia began consideration of claims requiring the suspension and cancellation of the law “On the transparency of foreign influence”.

The claims were filed by opposition parties, NGOs, a number of media and Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili.

From August 1, all the norms of the law “On the transparency of foreign influence”.

The so -called “Law on Ino -Agents” obliges NGOs and media organizations to register at the National Agency for the Public Register as an organization conducting the interests of foreign power.

Registration in the register is required for all organizations that receive more than 20% of income from abroad.

When registering, it is necessary to reflect information about the source, size and purpose of the received funds.

Earlier, the president and opposition in Georgia filed a lawsuit against the Constitutional Court against the Law on Ino -Agents.

Despite the calls of international partners, on May 28, the Georgian parliament overcame the president’s veto law on foreign agents. The law involves the creation of a special registry and declares the interests of foreign influence non -governmental and media organizations receiving foreign grants.

The European Union has repeatedly stated that the bill does not comply with the recommendations for further promotion in the EU. Further development of events led to the fact that Brussels announced the suspension of the integration of Georgia. At the same time, the United States announced a complete revision of relations with Georgia.
