Ukrainian authorities are negotiating with the Russian side about the possibility of evacuating dozens of seriously wounded Ukrainian military from the territory of the besieged Metallurgical Plant Azovstal in Mariupol, the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Irina Vereshchuk said on Thursday.
She announced the potential exchange of Ukrainian fighters for captured Russian military, but called the discussion “very difficult,” Radio Liberty reports.
“Now negotiations are underway about the fate of 38 seriously wounded,” Vereshchuk wrote in the Telegram channel, noting that no consultations on the exchange of 500 or 600 people that some media were written are currently underway.
At the same time, Vereshchuk recommended refraining from public comments on the details of negotiations or interference in the process in order to prevent the spread of misinformation or not to disrupt possible agreements.
