Kyiv: Russia takes out stolen Ukrainian wheat to Syria

Russia sent about 100,000 tons of wheat to its Syrian ally, stolen from Ukraine after an invasion of the country, said the Ukrainian Embassy in Beirut, calling these deliveries criminal activities.

The embassy informed Reuters that among the deliveries was one on board the Sailor Posinich vessel under the Russian flag, which moored in the main seaport of Syria Latakia at the end of May.

According to Refinitiv, the sailor Posinich ship loaded with wheat at the port of Sevastopol with the date of departure on May 19. The place of unloading of the vessel was indicated as Syria. On the satellite images received by Planet Labs PBC on May 29, it is clear that the same ship was moored in Latakia.

The Embassy of Ukraine in Lebanon, referring to Ukrainian law enforcement agencies, said that grain on board the “sailor of Posinich” was “stolen” from Ukrainian storage facilities in the territories recently occupied by Russian troops.
