Kyrgyzstan Advocates Expansion Of Climatic Financing

Against the background of accelerating the processes of global climate change, today it is necessary to agree on coordinated, well -funded climate actions to achieve ambitions of the Paris Agreement.

This was stated by the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov, speaking at the 29th conference of the parties to the UN Framular Convention on Climate Change in the capital of Azerbaijan Baku.

According to him, Kyrgyzstan is in support of the speedy adoption of a new collective quantitative goal of financing measures to combat climate change. “We urge developed countries to bring the amount of assistance to developing countries in the framework of climatic financing to two trillion US dollars in relief of access to this financing,” he said.

He noted that Kyrgyzstan initiated a mechanism to exchange external debt for climatic and sustainable development projects. “We offer the restructuring of the country’s external public debt by applying the mechanisms of replacing debt to specific green projects, including using the mechanism of the created climatic trust fund in Kyrgyzstan, from which projects in the field of ecology and sustainable mining will be financed. I invite interested countries to participate in activities this fund, ”continued the president of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Zhaparov expressed the appreciation of Turkey and Germany, since these two countries decided to transfer debts to “green” projects.

“Only by joint efforts we can achieve the goal of holding global warming and laying the foundation for the safe and stable future of our planet,” the politician summed up.
