Kyrgyzstan And Tajikistan Agreed To Exchange Plots In Border Villages

The authorities of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan agreed on mutual exchange of plots in the border villages, local media reported with reference to the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov.

According to the president, there are border villages between the states located as a chessboard with mixed houses. And this caused a lot of inconvenience.

“We resolved this issue. If the houses belonging to Tajikistan citizens were on our side, the Tajik side will relocate them. If our homes are on their side, we will relocate our citizens. We will build houses in another place, while it will be taken into account. The sizes of land in this way, issues were resolved taking into account each meter of land, ”he said.

Zhaparov noted that the issue of borders is practically resolved, only bilateral work on documentation remained.

The length of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan is about 972 km. In the zones of borders, conflicts between local residents and border guards of the two countries regularly occurred. The reason was indivisible areas where it was impossible to determine exactly how the border between the states runs. In early December last year, representatives of the countries said that Bishkek and Dushanbe finally agreed on the controversial areas of the state border between states.
