On 23 June, Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić met Elisabeth Moreno, the French Minister responsible for Gender Equality, Diversity and Equal Opportunities. During the meeting, they stressed the part played by the Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention) in protecting women’s rights and the vital need to redouble efforts to achieve broader support for that fundamental treaty.
The Secretary General praised the work done by France to promote the convention in the international arena and to combat sexism, as well as its role in organising the Generation Equality Forum.
The Secretary General and the minister then took part in the high-level panel discussion held by the Parliamentary Assembly to mark the 10th anniversary of the Istanbul Convention.
