The last native speaker of the Aleutian language Gennady Yakovlev died in Kamchatka, local media reports.
According to her, Yakovlev was 86 years old, he lived in the village of Nikolskoye on the island of Bering in the Commander Islands Archipelago. In recent years, only two people owned Russian dialects of the Aleutian language. Vera Tymoshenko, who owned the Bering dialect, died in 2021 at the age of 93.
