Latvia stopped issuing a residence permit to Russians and Belarusians

“to the citizens of the Russian Federation and Belarus until June 30, 2023 will not be issued a residence permit in Latvia. The Cabinet of Ministers of the country supported the appropriate amendments to the Law on Immigration.” This is stated in the message of the Government of Latvia.

In accordance with the amendments, it is assumed that citizens and non -citizens of Latvia, who want to become citizens of another country and at the same time stay in Latvia, must pass a test for knowledge of the state language and confirm the availability of the necessary finances.

In this case, it is proposed to make an exception for students and scientists who would like to stay in Latvia after graduation or research projects. Exceptions can also be made for investors and entrepreneurs, but they will be carefully checked by national security departments.
