Latvian government officially resigned

Prime Minister of Latvia Krishyanis Karins on Thursday handed President Edgar Rinkevich a retirement request, thereby officially resigned the government.

Rinkevich at a press conference confirmed the receipt of the resignation of the Cabinet of Ministers, thanked Karins for the work and said that next week consultations will begin with the political forces presented in the Sejm (one-time parliament) for the formation of a new coalition.

Rinkevich also noted that the Latvian company “is waiting for a number of issues such as high tariffs for electricity, interest rates on bank loans and increasing food prices”.

The government coalition included a “new unity”, a combined list (OS) and a national association. At the stage of the formation of the coalition, Karins proposed to include the opposition party “Progressive”, but the rest of the partners were against it. Karinsh has repeatedly indicated that OS and National Assembly prevented decision -making in the government, while these parties emphasized that the coalition is the best possible.
