The SEM of Latvia (one-Palace Parliament) will transfer to the parliamentary commissions the bill of the opposition National Association, which provides for the introduction of the ban on the supply of agricultural products from the Russian Federation and Belarus, the Baltic network of news Internet publications Delfi.
The National Association proposes to ban the supply of agricultural and processed agricultural products to Latvia from Russia and Belarus to stop the turnover of Russian grain and other products and prevent them from entering the EU market through Latvia.
As the Prime Minister Evik Silin (“New Unity”) emphasized, the government has already taken actions on this issue.
The head of the Latvian government recalled that the Minister of Agriculture of Latvia Armand Krause invited the European Union to discuss the ban on import of Russian agricultural products last fall.
Krause noted then that this does not imply restrictions on the possibilities of the transit of Russian grain in third countries, so as not to have a negative effect on global food security.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the general position of the Baltic countries is important, since it is difficult for one Latvia to receive support at the EU level.
