Participants in the Astana format at a meeting in Doha confirmed their commitment to territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov during the session of the Dokhia Forum.

“We strongly confirmed the territorial integrity, the sovereignty of Syria, called for the immediate termination of hostile actions. We all emphasized that we want a full implementation of the resolution of 2254 and for this we called for a dialogue between the government and the legal opposition,” Lavrov said during the session of the Dokhiysky Forum.

The Minister noted the importance of implementing the UN 2254 resolution of the Security Council of the UN. “The most important thing is not to say something new, but to realize what they signed under,” he emphasized.

Lavrov pointed out that “it is unacceptable to allow the terrorist group to take control of the territory in violation of existing agreements, starting with the resolution of 2254 Security Councils of the UN, which decisively confirms the sovereignty, territorial integrity and unity of Syria.”

The Minister also recalled two agreements reached under the Astana format in 2018 and 2020.

“We said that on this subject there are in Astana format the obligations developed – not to allow the strengthening of” Hayat Tahrir al -Sham “and to distance the non -warrous opposition from this group,” Lavrov said.

The Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation also announced the inadmissibility of using terrorists for geopolitical purposes.

“We are absolutely convinced of the inadmissibility of the use of terrorists, like” Hayyat Tahrir al -Sham “, to achieve geopolitical goals, as is being done now,” Lavrov said.

At the same time, the minister noted that “Russia provides military assistance to Syria with the help of a VKS, which are based in Khmeimim.” “We help the Syrian army to resist the attacks,” he stressed.

Lavrov also commented on reports on the withdrawal of Russian ships from the base in Tartus.

“Mediterranean exercises are held in the Mediterranean Sea. Maybe the pictures from the satellites are accepted for something else,” he said.

In addition, the Russian Foreign Minister announced the need to normalize relations between Turkey and Syria.

“I have no doubt that the relationship between Syria and Turkey should be normalized. And we will do our best to help,” he said.

According to the head of Russian diplomacy, Türkiye is a “very influential subject” in Syria.
