Relations between the Russian Federation and the Iraqi Republic will further develop in the spirit of many years of strong friendship between the two peoples. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at an exhibition dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic agents between Russia and Iraq.
The Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation recalled that diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on September 9, 1944.
“The central element of our practical cooperation is traditionally the oil and gas industry. With the participation of leading Russian oil companies, a number of large projects are successfully implemented. The total volume of Russian investments in the Iraqi Energy Sector exceeds $ 19 billion. The main share is at LUKOIL PJSC, PJSC Gazprom Neft “and PJSC” NK “Rosneft, – said Lavrov.
According to the minister, cultural, humanitarian and scientific and educational contacts are developing intensively.
“In general, in bilateral relations there is significant potential for further promoting the entire complex of interaction. In this regard, we highly appreciate the effective work of the Russian-Iraqi commission for trade, economic and scientific and technical cooperation. I would like to express confidence that relations between the Russian Federation and the Iraqi Republic will further develop in the spirit of many years of strong friendship between our peoples, ”said Lavrov.
