Russia plans to open new diplomatic missions in the countries of Southeast Asia. This was stated by the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the opening ceremony of the Russian Consulate General in the city of Phuket.
“Today’s opening ceremony of the Russian Permanent Consulate in Phuket is a very important step, but I dare to assure you, not the last step to expand the Russian diplomatic presence in Southeast Asia,” said Lavrov, whose words are cited by Russian media.
“In our plans, the discovery of additional diplomatic missions in other regional states of the region, -said the minister.
In addition, Lavrov said that he discussed with the Thai Foreign Minister the possibility of using Mir cards in the country.
Today, with my colleague, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, we said that the cards of the Russian payment system “Mir” were used here without any problems. This will give an additional impulse to increase the tourist flow, “the minister said.
Earlier, the Russian Minister held a meeting with the deputy prime minister, Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramwinay.
Negotiations took place before the official opening of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in the city of Phuket.
