The French newspaper Le Monde criticized the country’s education system for the results of TIMSS 2023, in which the international organization, in assessing educational achievements, estimated the level of students in mathematics and natural sciences in grades 4 and 8. According to the organization’s report, the growing trend in Turkey’s success brought her to the leaders, while French schoolchildren are at the very bottom among the countries of the continent.

Timss 2023 results were announced on December 4. Pupils from almost 50 countries took part in testing, in which Türkiye became one of the 5 countries that demonstrated the best results in the field of mathematics and natural sciences.

In the field of natural sciences, where Türkiye took second place among European countries, France has the worst average after Belgium and Chile.

Türkiye increased its science science in the 8th grade from 433 points to 530 points in 2023 and took 7th place among 44 countries. In the same class, Türkiye took 4th place among the 18 countries of the OECR.

Türkiye also took first place in the 4th grade among European countries in natural sciences and the second – in mathematics.
