Leaders Of Lithuania, Latvia And Estonia Discussed Infrastructure Security

Prime Minister of Lithuania Ingrid Shinonite, Prime Minister of Latvia Evika Silina and Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal discussed the safety of infrastructure after damage to the cables of ties laid on the bottom of the Baltic Sea.

According to the press service of the Lithuanian government, the three leaders gathered in Vilnius as part of the Council of Ministers of the Baltic countries exchanged ideas for the Russian-Ukrainian war and defense issues.

Leaders said that the incident with underwater communication cables in the Baltic Sea demonstrated the importance of cooperation between the Baltic countries, and also emphasized the importance of focusing attention on the infrastructure security of their countries.

Leaders noted that the safety of the eastern flank of NATO and Europe “depends on the victory of Ukraine in the war and Euro -Atlantic integration,” and called for strengthening the support of Kyiv.

In order to strengthen sanctions pressure, the leaders agreed to compile a joint list of military products to be limited to export to Russia and Belarus.

Meanwhile, Lithuanian Prime Minister Shinonit noted the need to “remain calm, but at the same time show attention and vigilance”, and also called for “being prepared for a decisive joint response.”

The Council of Ministers of the Baltic countries was created by Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia on June 13, 1994. Within the framework of the Council, the leaders of the three countries are found once a year.
