Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte.
This is stated in the report on the Relations of the Administration of the President of Turkey.
During the negotiations, the state of bilateral relations of Turkey and the Netherlands was discussed.
The Turkish leader told the candidate for the post of Secretary General of NATO Rutte about the expectations of Ankara from the new head of the North Atlantic Alliance.
He emphasized that the next head of the bloc should best serve as the security goals and interests of the alliance members in the fight against terrorism and other challenges, strengthen the unity of NATO and set priorities in the key role of NATO, take on convincing obligations to adhere to fundamental values and established practice North Atlantic Alliance.
President Erdogan also emphasized that the Alliance should take into account sensitive issues for allies who are not part of the EU.
According to him, Turkey will decide the issue of the new Secretary General of NATO in the framework of “strategic rationality and justice”, taking into account the above aspects.
