Today a meeting of the Baku Court of Appeal was held in the case of Leila Yunus and Arifa Yunus living in the Netherlands, writes Qafqazinfo.
The Society of Azerbaijani Women for Peace and Democracy in the Caucasus took place as a victim in the case. The complaint was filed in the Baku Court of Appeal by lawyer Yunusov in 2020. However, since the accused at that time was not in Azerbaijan, the case was postponed indefinitely.
According to Lila’s lawyer Yunus Elchin Sadygov, the court on its own initiative appointed a hearing to suspend the case. “The final act was not issued, and the proceedings were suspended. My petition regarding the participation of Yunus in the process is not satisfied online,” he said.
Note that Leila Yunus is accused under articles 178.3.2 (fraud with damage on a large scale), 192.2.2 (illegal entrepreneurship with large -scale income), 213.2.2 (large -scale tax evasion) , 320 (fake of official documents) and 274 (state treason). In 2015, the Baku court for serious crimes sentenced Leila Yunus to 8 years and 6 months of imprisonment, and Arifa Yunus to 7 years. Further, the Baku Court of Appeal changed the deadline for conditional. Yunus spouses also imposed a ban on departure from the country. Then the court of appeal lifted the ban, and the couple moved to the Netherlands.
