Lithuania decided to reduce the political mission at meetings in Hungary in connection with the visit of the Prime Minister of this country in the Russian Federation.
According to LRT, the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nauceda will decide on a possible visit to Budapest together with other leaders of the European Union. These measures were confirmed by the Chairman of the Sejm Committee on Foreign Affairs (KID) Zhigimantas Paviwanis and a number of sources in the government.
“At the moment, we decided to limit our participation at the political level in Hungary,” said Pavlunis.
According to him, this decision was agreed with both the government and with the president. “We join those who are dissatisfied with the position of Orban,” said Pavevyonis.
BNS sources reported that Lithuania decided not to participate in informal tips at the level of ministers in Budapest, but will be able to send deputy ministers.
Lithuanian ministers will continue to participate in the official meetings of the EU Council in Brussels, regardless of the presiding country.
It is expected that the meeting of the European Council of the heads of state will also be held in Hungary in six months. It is still unclear whether the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nauceda will boycott this event.
“The position regarding participation in events in Hungary at the level of heads of state will be agreed with EU partners,” the BNS administration told BNS.
“The visit of Orban is not only unacceptable, but also violates a number of political agreements at the highest level, such as a refusal to communicate with the Putin regime, which is accepted even at the level of the Council of EU leaders. This visit is not an EU position and contradicts our positions” , – Pavilienis emphasized.
